Sam is a theatre director working across the UK and internationally.
He was an Associate Director at the Royal Court Theatre between 2016 and 2024, where he directed productions across the programme, developed work with writers and ran the theatre’s International Programme, working with artists from around the world. His work includes Alistair McDowall’s monologue series all of it for the Royal Court and Avignon Festival, the site-responsive London premiere of Julia Jarcho’s noir thriller Grimly Handsome which took over the Royal Court building and The Mysteries, a six play cycle with Chris Thorpe commissioned by the Royal Exchange to be made and performed in different communities across the UK. Sam began his career as New Writing Associate at the Royal Exchange Theatre and won the JMK Award for Directors in 2012.
